How to bathe your dog like a groomer

In the process of interacting with dogs, taking a bath is not only to keep them clean, but also a precious time to deepen our emotional connection.

In the process of interacting with dogs, taking a bath is not only to keep them clean, but also a precious time to deepen our emotional connection. Pet beauticians provide intimate bathing services for dogs with their professional knowledge and rich experience. If we can also master their skills, not only can we provide dogs with a comfortable bathing experience, but we can also further improve their health and happiness index, and deepen the intimate relationship between humans and dogs.

Before bathing a dog, a pet groomer will carefully observe the overall condition of the dog, communicate with the owner to understand the dog's recent diet, bowel movements, mental state, and whether there are any health problems. We should also follow this practice and conduct a comprehensive examination before bathing dogs. Check the dog's ears for any odor, redness, swelling, or discharge; Check the eyes for excessive eye droppings or inflammation; Touch the dog's body and pay attention to any lumps or injured areas. This not only enables timely detection of health hazards in dogs, but also avoids discomfort during bathing. At the same time, we need to prepare bath products suitable for dogs, including pet specific shower gel, conditioner, soft towels, combs, ear wash, cotton balls, and appropriately sized bathtubs or tubs. Pet specific shower gel can maintain the acid-base balance of dog skin, protect skin and hair health, and avoid irritation to dog skin caused by the use of human bath products.

Before taking a bath, grooming your dog's hair is an essential step. Pet beauticians will use professional combs to gently untangle hair knots, starting from the tip and gradually reaching the roots, according to the direction of hair growth. When grooming, we should also try to be gentle and avoid pulling the dog's hair. For dogs with long or curly hair, hair conditioners can be used appropriately to help with grooming. Combing hair not only removes fallen hair and prevents tangling when in contact with water, but also promotes blood circulation in dogs, making them feel comfortable.

Before taking a formal bath, help your dog relax. Pet groomers usually communicate with dogs in a gentle tone, gently stroking their heads and backs to help them gradually adapt to their environment. We can also play with our dogs for a while before taking a shower, or give them some small snacks to relieve their nervousness. After the dogs relax, carry them into the bathtub or tub.

Adjusting the water temperature is a crucial step in the bathing process. Dogs have a slightly higher body temperature than humans, between 37.7 ℃ and 39.2 ℃. Therefore, the temperature of the bath water should be controlled between 36 ℃ and 40 ℃. It is recommended to test the temperature on the back of the hand or inside of the elbow to feel warm and comfortable. Pet groomers will use handheld showerheads or water ladles to slowly pour warm water onto the dog's feet, allowing the dog to gradually adapt to the feeling of being wet. We can also use the same method to wet the dog's legs, body, back, and tail in sequence, and finally wet the head, avoiding the eyes, ears, and mouth.

Take a proper amount of bath gel and rub it into your hands to produce rich foam. Massage the dog's skin and hair with your finger pulp in the order of starting from the back, then to the neck, chest, abdomen, feet, feet, buttocks, tail, and finally to the head, so that the foam can be fully contacted to achieve the cleaning effect. When massaging, pay attention to moderate intensity, just like giving a dog a massage, allowing the dog to enjoy the process. At the same time, be sure to avoid the dog's face to prevent foam from entering the eyes, mouth and nose, causing discomfort.

When washing the foam on the dog's body with clean water, slowly and thoroughly wash it from the foot in the same order of drenching to ensure that the foam at the root of the hair is also washed away. If foam remains, it may stimulate the dog's skin, causing skin itching, allergy and other problems. For dogs with long or thick hair, the frequency of rinsing can be appropriately increased.

After rinsing, quickly use a towel to absorb the moisture from the dog's body and minimize the drying time. When wiping, gently press according to the direction of hair growth to avoid forcefully rubbing and causing hair knots. Next, turn on the hair dryer and set it to the warm air mode, maintaining a distance of about 20 centimeters. Start blowing from larger areas such as the dog's abdomen and back, and use a comb to comb the hair while blowing to evenly heat it and accelerate drying. Pay attention to constantly changing the position of the hair dryer to avoid local overheating and scalding of the dog's skin. For large dogs or dogs with thick fur, you can first use a water blower to disperse most of the moisture, and then use a hair dryer to further dry it.

During the entire bathing process, always pay attention to the emotional changes of the dog. If the dog shows discomfort or resistance, the operation should be stopped immediately to calm the dog's emotions. You can gently talk to dogs, stroke their bodies, and make them feel safe.

After taking a shower, don't forget to provide follow-up care for your dog. Dip a cotton ball into ear wash, clean the dog's ears, and check for any abnormal conditions such as redness, swelling, odor, or secretions inside the ears. When trimming a dog's nails, be careful not to cut the blood line to avoid bleeding and pain. Some dogs also need to squeeze their anal glands to keep their anus open and clean, but extra care should be taken during the operation to avoid injuring the dog.

After giving dogs a bath, give them ample rewards and praise. You can give your dog a delicious snack, gently stroke their head, and tell them they are a good dog. This not only allows dogs to associate bathing with pleasurable experiences, but also deepens their feelings for each other.

Bathing dogs like pet groomers requires us to invest time and energy, paying attention to every detail. Every time a dog is bathed, it is an expression of love, allowing the dog to grow up healthy and happy in a clean and comfortable environment, and deepening the emotional bond between humans and dogs over time.
