Coccidiosis in dogs, a disease that quietly threatens the health of dogs, is like a "little devil" hiding in the dark. Understanding its symptoms is a key step in protecting the health of dogs.

Coccidioides, this tiny parasite, once "camped" in the dog's intestines, will stir up trouble. The most easily detected is the abnormality of the dog's intestinal health. Diarrhea is often the first symptom. At first, the dog's feces may be only slightly watery and soft, and the owner may think that the dog has a stomachache and does not pay much attention to it. But as coccidia multiply in large numbers in the intestines, diarrhea becomes more severe, the feces gradually become as thin as water, and the number of defecations increases significantly. Imagine that the dog, who was originally lively and energetic, now frequently runs to the defecation area and weakly excretes watery feces. As an owner, how can you not be anxious?

If you observe carefully, blood may appear in the dog's feces, which is the "iron evidence" that coccidia erode the intestinal mucosa. The bright red or dark red, like the dog's silent cry for help, pierces the owner's heart. Sometimes, there is mucus mixed in the feces. This is the intestinal tract struggling to resist infection and trying to protect the damaged mucosa with mucus, but it also reveals the great pain that the dog's intestines are suffering.

In addition to intestinal problems, the dog's mental state will also change drastically due to coccidiosis. It used to be full of energy and circling around the owner, but suddenly became listless. Calling its name, the response becomes slow, and it is also not interested in its favorite toys. When you want to make it happy, it just barely raises its eyes, and the former agility in its eyes disappears, replaced by deep fatigue and depression. This mental change makes the owner feel that the familiar happy partner is gradually fading away, and worry and loss surge in his heart.

Loss of appetite is also a typical symptom of coccidiosis in dogs. The dog that used to be excited when it was time for dinner now just sniffs indifferently and turns away when faced with delicious dog food. Even if you take out your favorite snacks to "tempt" it, it will only stay for a while and then lose interest. The dog's body is like a precision machine, and food is the source of energy for its operation. Loss of appetite means insufficient nutrition intake, and the body will quickly weaken. Over a long period of time, the dog's weight has dropped significantly, and its originally round body has gradually become thinner, and its ribs have become more and more clearly visible. When you touch it, you can clearly feel the bones rubbing your hands, which makes the owner feel distressed.

Some dogs infected with coccidiosis will also have vomiting symptoms. The food eaten will be vomited out not long after. Watching the dog retching uncomfortably, the owner is full of anxiety but helpless. Vomiting not only makes it impossible for the dog to eat normally, but also further depletes its physical strength, making the condition worse. Moreover, frequent vomiting can easily cause dehydration. The dog's mouth becomes dry, the tongue is no longer moist and flexible, and the eyes lose their former moist luster and become sunken and dull. Dehydration is extremely harmful to the dog's health, and in severe cases it can even endanger his life. This undoubtedly rings the alarm bell for the owner.

Coccidiosis in dogs brings a lot of pain to dogs. These symptoms are the distress signals sent by dogs to their owners. As owners, we should always pay attention to the physical and mental state of dogs. Once we find any abnormality, we should take them to the veterinarian as soon as possible. Early diagnosis and treatment can make dogs suffer less and restore their former liveliness and health as soon as possible.
